Establishment of Sustainable Tourism in Brazil
Ilhabela is the home of a new endeavor, partially sponsored by the World Bank, to develop sustainable tourism in Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. Main objectives include improving the eco-tourism infrastructure, create jobs, while mitigating the environmental impact.

SHARE is working to build a small marine science observation center on the island to help monitor and protect the local environment. A special feeding ground will also be established for marine turtles, including the endangered leatherback turtle. The facility will serve a base for local scientists and visiting international experts.

Other Projects By SHARE
At the 2006 Climate Change Forum in Brazil, with the World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz, SHARE participated in discussions on sustainable development issues.

Promoting Alternative Fuels for Energy

Urban Development and the Creation of City Parks

Sustainable Fashion

Brazilian Green Building Council
We're also working with the Green Building Council to support efficiency in the use of resources (such as water and energy) while reducing construction and operation waste. Through collaboration with builders, financial institutions, civil society groups, and the government, we're helping to institute environmentally sensitive development across the construction industry.

The beginning of the new millennium finds the Earth at a crossroads. On one side we see a big spender consumer society. One where continuous growth threatens the destruction of the natural resources that sustain human activities.

On the other hand, we find efforts to reverse this destructive process and introduce practices to ensure the well-being of the earth for future generations.

SHARE International is at the forefront of this latter movement. We promote the understanding for the needs of sustainable living styles. Unlike organizations that are trying to protect the environment without regard to humanities continued influence, the goals of sustainable development are to work with local groups and individuals to protect the environment on which they depend.

By promoting awareness, creating alternatives, encouraging social and ethical responsibility, along with education, technical, and scientific support, we can create a new paradigm for the future that will work toward protecting the environment on which we all depend.
